It would be inappropriate to apply the conversion factors found in the System Reliability Toolkit to a single part type. The conversion factors identified therein are weighted averages of the PI E factors from MIL-HDBK-217F for a ‘typical’ system with the following relative part percentages:
Transistors – 2%
Capacitors – 28%
Resistors – 27%
ICs – 18%
Inductors – 17%
Diodes – 5%
Miscellaneous – 3%
A conversion factor derived from the MIL-HDBK-217F PI E factors for the specific component type of interest would be more appropriate.
