RMQSI Answers ForumCategory: Electrical Component ReliabilityUsing 217plus failure rate data with MIL-HDBK-217
jack asked 10 years ago

Hi there,

I am currently in the process transitioning from MIL-HDBK-217 to 217plus. Our existing MTBF calculations were performed using the MIL-HDBK-217 models. As the MIL-HDBK-217 base fits are quite pessimistic, we have used manufacturer FIT data for some of the components where available. As it will take some time to fully complete the transition I was wondering if it would be valid to use the component FITs generated from 217plus in place of the MIL-HDBK-217 FITs for components for which we do not have manufacturer failure rate data?

I have my doubts but if this were possible it would also allow us to make a comparison between the methodologies.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
