Quanterion Solutions Incorporated recently held a ribbon-cutting and luncheon at the State University of New York’s Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) to celebrate the “Grand Re-opening” of the Department of Defense’s Reliability Information Analysis Center (RIAC), which is located at the Institute. The “re-opening” triples the size of the facility at SUNYIT, where the core operations for the multimillion dollar government contract are conducted. The event coincided with the 40th anniversary celebration of this important Information Analysis Center (IAC), which has always resided in the Utica-Rome area. Joining RIAC’s staff members at the celebration was Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito and key government managers from the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) at Ft. Belvoir, VA, the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in Rome, NY and the Air Force 55th Contracting Squadron at Offutt AFB, NE.

The RIAC is operated by a team led by Wyle Laboratories that includes the Center’s primary day-to-day operator, Utica-based Quanterion Solutions Incorporated. Other team members include the University of Maryland Center for Risk and Reliability, the Penn State University Applied Research Laboratory, and SUNYIT.

RIAC is the DoD’s Center of Excellence in reliability, maintainability, quality, supportability, and interoperability. The center provides consulting services, guidance publications, and training to government and industry customers nationwide under an Air Force Contract administered by the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC). Since the Center’s inception, it has been technically managed by the Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome (formerly Rome Air Development Center and Rome Laboratory).

The RIAC’s operation at SUNYIT serves as a model of successful government-industry-academia cooperation in order to address the technical needs of both the defense community and commercial industry. More than 40 SUNYIT faculty members, student interns, and support staff have supported the Center by contributing state-of-the-art information technology and knowledge management expertise
